In reply to Rachel.

Speak for yourself. I live in the south; we certainly do have fried bread, and have done for all of my 72 years… unfortunately, it seems to much trouble for some cafes and hotels.

I’ve been eating Heinz beans with my full breakfasts for decades but recently I’ve taken to using Branston. I find them no less flavourful and still fully suitable in a full breakfast, although perhaps purists would balk at the fact my version has veggie-bacon and beef sausage since I don’t eat piggies.

Finest start to the day in the world is the English full breakfast. Must not have any of the American additions like hash browns, grits. Must have 2 very large fried eggs, 4 or 5 rashers of English back bacon unsmoked or smoked, none of your US streaky bacon.
3 to 5 English pork sausages, 3 or 4 pieces of black pudding, mushrooms preferably large flat white x 2. Fried bread 1 slice cut in half. Baked beans, Tomatoes can be tinned but preferably 3 fresh ones. Now for the “Piece De Resistance” Bubblle and Squeak”. On the side should be a couple of slices of white bread and butter. Then as much toast as you want with butter and marmalade. Large Fresh Orange Juice and to top off a large mug of strong English tea.
This will last you for most of the day.

Just enjoyed a great English B’fast for brunch! Requested no hash brown, or toast n left most of the beans sadly😥, too many carbs for Keto! But all the rest, as your picture with a little Cumberland sausage, was the best n will last me well ‘til later😊.

What about the brown sauce? For me, it’s not a fry-up without some HP sauce.

I posted a message about a full English containing kidneys, as my first did in London in 1976. Three posters mentioned kidneys. The sausage tasted like it had a lot of filler. All in all a lovely meal. My message disappeared as I was entering my e-mail address. Am not retyping it all again.

bang on mate..might u add on the halved tomatoes sprinkle a little granulated sugar for better caramilisation and when ever possible include in your bubble.. chopped Brussels sprouts and the occasional garden peas. add butter to the pan for a sweeter nuttier caramelised crispness

In reply to Tascha.

A bottle of HP is almost ten bucks at the local US supermarket. It’s similar to any steak sauce. If you find yourself without any just mix catsup and Worcestershire sauce and you will come up with something similar. (Just read the ingredients on the HP or steak sauce bottle. That’s basically what it is.)

HP sauce doesn’t get mentioned much in FEB recipes, but I’ve seen it on the table at breakfast in England. I’ve never seen fried bread though but always white or brown bread toast plus orange marmalade or other kinds of jam.

My heresy: some cooked spinach goes really well with the traditional FEB and adds a green element to the color palette. And it’s simple to cook (frozen or fresh) in a covered bowl or similar cooking dish in the microwave oven.

The mushrooms can be cooked ahead of time.
